LAYERS OF SKIN
EPIDERMIS:
It is the outermost layer of skin on your body. It keeps the body hydrated, protects from harm, produces new skin cells (collagen), and contains melanin (which determines the colour of your skin).
DERMIS:
The dermis supports and protects deep layers of the skin. It assists in thermoregulation which is the ability of an organism to keep its body temperature within certain boundaries. The dermis aids in sensation supports the epidermis and produces sweat glands. The dermis fibrous structure is composed of extracellular components including nerve endings, hair follicles, and hair glands. It also contains blood vessels and lymph vessels.
HYPODERMIS:
The hypodermis also called the subcutaneous tissue is the bottom layer of the skin and is the main structural support for the skin. It stores energy and connects the dermis to your muscles and bones a. Other functions of the hypodermis include insulating your body from the cold, aiding shock absorption, and protecting the body from harm. The hypodermis largely consists of fats and energy and helps the body to cool down by spending when the external temperature is high.
